Gil The Authentic Rural Torbato Peated Gin 43° 500ml
Gil was one of the three Americans - along with Roger and Jefferson - who took over the Vecchio Magazzino Doganale (Old Bonded Warehouse) in 1871, after a shipwreck on the coast of Fiumefreddo Bruzio, and who fell in love with the beauty of Calabria. Gil, an alchemist, mentions healing mud in his notes, and over time the team at Vecchio Magazzino Doganale realised that he was talking about peat. When it is burnt, the wild juniper of Rocca Imperiale absorbs the smoke. The producer claims that Gil Peated Torbato Italiano is the first and only smoky gin in the world. Four main botanicals are distilled to produce the gin: Rocca Imperiale juniper, wormwood, elderflower and angelica. It is then flavoured with IGP Rocca Imperiale lemon, Bisignano bittersweet oranges and grapefruit from the family orchards, bergamot from Pellaro, oregano from Palombaro and lavender from Cozzo Carbonaro, and aloe vera, which is infused with alcohol for 3-4 months. Its mineral and smoky flavour can be enjoyed neat, but is particularly interesting in mixology. The drink has delicate notes of burning peat accompanied by aromas of juniper and wormwood. The drink is filtered through a plain linen cloth. Its colour may vary from batch to batch, ranging from yellow to brownish. Alc: 43%. 500ml. From Calabria, Italy.
